Cape Cornwall is the only cape in England separating the wild Atlantic Ocean from the Celtic sea. At its summit is a chimney, part of the old mine, which at its base are the old mine ruins and even the remains of an old oratory. Look east or west and you will see towering cliffs, and out to sea you will see the Brisons, rocks feared by sailors and fishermen alike. Look to the horizon and on a clear day you can see the outline of the Isles of Scilly.

There is a car park here run by the National Trust who now maintain the Cape. Overlooking the cape are various building one of which is the clubhouse of the Cape Cornwall Club hotel and golf course that stretches almost to the cliffs edge.
Walking options are aplenty, a walk towards Lands End will take you past the beach at Cot Valley where the smooth granite rocks are sometimes referred to as dinosaur’s eggs. In the opposite direction you can walk to Geevor tin mine, passing derelict mine workings, prehistoric remains and magnificent cliffs. Perhaps the most dramatic buildings are the engine houses at Botallack, a much photographed landmark that fuses Cornwall’s maratime and mining history in one image.
To get to the Cape you have to pass through the town of St Just the most westerly town on the mainland of England. The town is worth a visit as it is mainly an unspoilt Cornish rural town with traditional shops, an art gallery and plenty of pubs and cafes where you can get food and a drink.
Have a look round the old granite buildings, visit the parish church where you can see the old headstones that will give you an idea of the life expectancy of the old miners who lived and worked the mines in the vicinity.
The area around the Cape is secluded and remote, though there are regular buses serving the area, some of which are open topped. If you follow the coast from Pendeen you travel through small villages or hamlets like Carnyorth, Botallack or Trewellard. Wherever you go dramatic vistas open up before you. It is an area where your imagination can go wild but it is still within easy reach of the main town in the area Penzance. This is a land of history and legend waiting for you.
