The Area
There a car park here run by the National Trust who now maintain the Cape. Overlooking the cape is the clubhouse of the Cape Cornwall Club hotel and golf course that stretches almost to the cliffs edge.
You’ll find plenty of walking options, and a stroll towards Land’s End leads you past Cot Valley beach, where smooth granite rocks nicknamed dinosaur’s eggs dot the shoreline. In the opposite direction you can walk to Geevor tin mine, derelict mine workings and magnificent cliffs. Perhaps the most dramatic buildings are the engine houses at Botallack, a much photographed landmark that fuses Cornwall’s maratime and mining history.
To get to the Cape you have to pass through the town of St Just the most westerly town on the mainland of England. It is worth a visit as it is mainly an unspoilt Cornish rural town with traditional shops, an art gallery and plenty of pubs and cafes.
The Cape sits in a secluded, remote setting, but regular bus services, including some open-topped options, make it surprisingly accessible. Following the coast from Pendeen you travel through many small villages or hamlets. Wherever you go dramatic vistas open up before you. It is an area where your imagination can go wild but it is still within easy reach of Penzance. This is a land of history and legend waiting for you.
